While Tunnels Beach is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, all through the year, occasionally though, parts of Tunnels Beach may get closed or activities at Tunnels Beach may be warned against due to weather.
Sometimes, swimming at Tunnels Beach may be restricted or advised against, when there are shark sightings as in October 2023.
Makua Pu’uhonua, an area of Tunnels Beach, was designated a protected area, and you are not allowed to enter this area without a special permit.
While this area is closed, Tunnels Beach is quite large, and you have plenty of other coral reefs and lava formations of the beach to explore.
