Tunnels Beach Surfing

In the winter, when large waves pound the shore most days, you cannot usually swim or snorkel at Tunnels Beach.

But Tunnels Beach is also one of the Kauai north shore beaches famous for its shore break, which means it’s popular with surfers, windsurfers, and kiteboarders.

The break, which is located out in the water, requires going around the reef, a 20-minute paddle out, and is suited only to advanced surfers.

You have to watch out for sharks!

While the winter months, November through March, are the top months for surfing at Tunnels, you may occasionally see surfers beyond the reef at other times of the year as well.
